Sarah Morrish - Botanical Artist

Sarah Morrish - Botanical & Natural History Artist

Sarah’s fascination and passion of illustrating the natural world stems from childhood and throughout her life this has followed her alongside her main careers, in education for nearly 20 years and latterly in conservation.  Her work in education now continues - in lifelong learning, as she teaches courses and workshops in Hampshire and Dorset UK, in botanical art and natural history illustration.

From late 2016 Sarah will also be providing online tuition.

Watercolour is the predominant medium she uses, but her detailed work is also portrayed using graphite pencil, and gouache. In addition she is fascinated by painting on vellum and really values the beautiful qualities of painting on this challenging medium.  She is particularly inspired by the plants and species found in ancient habitats, such as ancient woodland and hedgerows.

In 2014-2015 Sarah worked on a project in association with the Kingcombe Centre in Dorset, illustrating the natural elements of ancient hedgerows, in particular twigs and buds of trees and shrubs in winter, and was awarded a Silver medal by the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) at the RHS London Botanical Art Show in February 2016.

In 2015 and 2016 she was also invited to exhibit at the Florum exibition in Kent UK. She has been a full exhibiting member with the Society of Floral Painters since 2000 and has had two successful solo exhibitions in recent years.  She has also been Artist in Residence for the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust.

Since 2013 she has exhibited with the Society of Botanical Artists and was accepted as an Associate Member in 2015.  In 2014 Sarah was awarded a Certificate of Botanical Merit at the SBA exhibition, for her painting ‘A View Inside – Echinacea purpurea’.

Her work has also been reproduced onto fine ceramic ware by Jayne Chapman Designs Ltd., and is also published in Katherine Tyrrell’s book Sketching 365, published by Apple Press in January 2015.

In 2016 she will be writing for the 'Leisure Painter' magazine in the UK.
